How do I request a public record?

Beginning June 29, 2021, a public agency must respond to a request to inspect records within five business days. If you want to submit an open records request to this office,

  • You MUST fill out and sign this form (or a form that contains the same information).
  • You may mail the form to the Nelson County Judge Executive’s Office, PO Box 578, Bardstown, KY 40004 or you may email the form to openrecords@nelsoncountyky.gov.
  • You must have the words “Open Records Request” in the subject line of the email.
  • A signed and dated form MUST be submitted. If you make the request in the body of the email or in some other unsigned or undated manner, it will be rejected as non-compliant with this agency’s procedures.

Please be advised that only Kentucky residents may request to inspect public records. (KRS 61.872 (2) (a)). You must include a statement in your request that you are a resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  If you are not a Kentucky resident, your request will be denied.

A fee of $0.10 per page and $0.40 per CD if you choose to pick up or have records mailed. We do not convert paper records into digital formats. If your request is denied, the Judge Executive will include a statement of the exception which authorizes the County to withhold the record, and a brief explanation of how the exception applies to the record withheld.
